Meditating in Nature

How can Mindfulness change your life?

When you establish a Mindfulness practice, nothing changes, and yet everything changes. The profound transformation that occurs takes place within you. You choose to relate to the stressors in life more skillfully. When you practice Mindfulness, you experience some pretty powerful insights that lead to some amazing shifts in all areas of your life.

What we do...

Drawing on the practices of a variety of traditions, as well as the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, North Georgia Mindfulness Project's curriculum is a synthesis of best practices in meditation and real-world applications. Our programs impart the tools necessary to overcome trauma, transform negative behaviors and thought-patterns, and make positive life changes.

What is Mindfulness?

Jon Kabat-Zinn westernized “Mindfulness” and meditation when he began training a group of cancer patients in Mindfulness in 1979. He believed a person’s physical health is directly related to his or her mental-wellbeing and by guiding cancer patients to a Mindfulness practice, their health would vastly improve. His theory proved to be true.

Jon Kabat-Zinn defines “Mindfulness” as the practice of “paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally.”

The practice of Mindfulness is the practice of present moment awareness, while noticing when your thoughts influence your emotions and physical sensations. It is a way to create a sense of well-being in oneself through participation in research-based Mindfulness strategies such as meditation, breath focus, and moment-to-moment attention to the present.
